Ahmad Faizal may propose to lift suspension on Zii Jia and Jin Wei

PETALING JAYA: Lift the ban on the players.

This is likely to be among the proposals Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu will raise when he meets the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to find a win-win situation following the national body’s decision to bar Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei from playing in international tournaments.

BAM have gone to the extreme of punishing the duo for two years after the duo decided to leave their fold and become independent players.

Zii Jia quit on Jan 11 while Jin Wei left the national team in September last year.

The meeting is expected to take place on Monday (Jan 24).

“I’ve a few suggestions in mind which I will propose to the BAM but I can’t reveal it as it’s only right that I meet them first,” said Ahmad Faizal during an event in Ipoh on Sunday (Jan 23).

“We hope that this issue will be resolved amicably in the best interest of the nation. In regards to (lifting the ban), I will discuss it at the meeting,” he said.

When asked when he would be meeting the parties, he said: “My team will make all the arrangements, if I’m not mistaken, there is one meeting tomorrow (Jan 24)… we will do this as soon as we can.

“What’s important is to find a solution to ensure we retain a good image in world badminton,” said Ahmad Faizal.
