Low-cost airline AirAsia has announced that it is offering a special discount on all seats and flights to both domestic and international destinations as part of its currently ongoing Merdeka promotion. To commemorate Malaysia’s national day on 31 August, customers are offered 31% off on the aforementioned services, which applies to flights hosted by both the company’s primary airline and its AirAsia X long-haul arm.

According to AirAsia, the 31% discount is only applicable to bookings made from today on 23 August until 4 September 2022, though the travel periods must take place between 6 February 2023 to 31 July 2023. In other words, you won’t be getting the discount if you’re planning to book flights prior to the specified period, so keep that in mind.

As mentioned earlier, the company says it is offering all of its domestic and international flights (both inbound and outbound) as part of its Merdeka promotion. Highlighted locations include local destinations such as Alor Setar, Kota Kinabalu and more, as well as popular international destinations such as Jakarta, Bangkok, Hanoi, Sydney, Auckland and so on.

However, although the company states that the 31% discount applies to all destinations it currently provides, one particular location in the list is slightly exempted. As noted by a fine print in AirAsia’s press release, flights to Seoul are only discounted at 20% off for this promotional period. The company did not explain the reason behind this.

Customers are also offered a separate 31% discount on seat bookings for flights during the aforementioned travel period. This applies to premium flatbed seats as well, which is something to consider if you’re hankering for business class-like experience on the airline’s long-haul flights.

Additionally, AirAsia is offering Visa cardholders an extra RM15 off when paying for their flights with their card as a preferred payment method during the Merdeka promotion. However, keep in mind that this discount is only applicable to purchases with a minimum spend of RM 200.
