Brave has announced that it is finally bringing its Firewall + VPN service to its desktop browser, years after it has been exclusively available on its mobile apps. The feature, in collaboration with Guardian, was first launched on its iOS app back in 2020 before expanding to its Android browser just last year.

According to the company, the VPN service is now available with the recent 1.49 version of the desktop browser. We couldn’t find the feature during our testing but Brave said that it will be rolling out across various regions over the next few days, so not everyone will be able to use it just yet.

Its VPN subscription features cross-platform support including Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. With a single subscription, users can connect up to five devices to the service.

Currently, Brave Firewall + VPN  is being offered at RM44.90 per month or RM439.90 per year, although the company says that it will also launch a specific annual plan for desktop purchases soon. If you are already subscribed to the service on iOS or Android, you can go to the VPN section of the browser’s settings to link more mobile or desktop devices.

The Brave VPN does not require an additional app but can instead be toggled inside the browser. It enables users to mask their IP address, change their online location, block their ISP from tracking their activities, and access geo-blocked content. The service even blocks trackers in other apps outside the Brave browser.

To sign up for the VPN, you only need to provide an email address and payment information, with the browser promising that your email will be unlinkable to your daily usage. On a related note, those on iOS and Android can already use the Privacy Hub to see which trackers have been blocked, but Brave said this feature will soon be coming to desktop as well.
