IPOH: Several staff members at the Bukit Larut tourism centre have been left stranded following a landslide at the popular hill station.

According to a spokesman on its Facebook page, the staff were on their way downhill when soil from a slope gave way and fell on the road on Thursday (Jan 12) at about 3pm.

“The staff were on their way down from the hill’s station and bungalow at KM10.

“The landslide occurred in areas between Hut One and Watermelon,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman also said that the Taiping Municipal Council has ordered for the place to be closed indefinitely to prevent any untoward incidents.

“The date for the reopening will be made known once the safety evaluation has been conducted, especially by the Public Works Department,” the spokesman added.

The spokesman had also warned visitors on the social media platform to be careful about several stretches of the road at the hill that had been damaged due to soil erosion.
