Cooler Master Introduces Its Very Own Gaming Cockpit, The Orb X

The Predator Thronos, Acer’s gaming cockpit, has been mostly unchallenged for several years – that is, until now. Just announced by Cooler Master is their very own multi-purpose throne known as the Orb X which follows a similar vein as its rival but with a sleek, sci-fi look. It’s also worth noting that the brand first previewed the product, or an initial concept of it, three years ago at Computex 2019.

The Cooler Master Orb X mostly adopts a pod-like design that is covered with ABS plastic shells on its main body, dome, and front cover. Completing its space age inspired theme are ARGB light strips surrounding the edges of the shells, which can be customised to output any colour. And speaking of colour, the gaming cockpit is available in two colour options, which the brand dubs as Arctic White and Universe Black. In comparison, it is quite apparent that Cooler Master is going for a more luxurious aesthetic as opposed to the Predator Thronos’ totalitarian-esque look.

Like its competitor, the gaming station is also semi-enclosed and features a motorised shuttle dome that lifts up to give you access to enter or exit its cockpit. Attached on the dome is a mount that supports either a 34-inch monitor for productive purposes, or a trio of 27-inch curved screens for an immersive gaming experience. As for audio, the Orb X comes with a built-in surround system, which Cooler Master boldly claims to provide the user with a realistic soundstage without needing headphones.

Meanwhile, found inside of the main body is a seat made from “genuine leather,” and features a fully adjustable headrest, lumbar support, leg rest, as well motorised recliner and seat positioning. In front of it is a decently sized desk with built-in wireless charging, an array of USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as the ability to swivel out in order to allow the user to enter or exit the cockpit. Besides that, situated on the left-hand side of the seat is a panel for controlling the Orb X’s sound system, motorised parts and so on, while found on its back is a hidden compartment where users can store their PC and/or video game console.

Cooler Master has yet to announce the pricing or a release date for its own gaming cockpit. Given that Acer’s Predator Thronos costs RM 56,999, it wouldn’t be surprising if the retail price for the Orb X would hit around the same figure as well.
