Cops arrest man for allegedly selling counterfeit booze

TANGKAK: Police have detained a local man for allegedly being involved in the sale of counterfeit and untaxed liquor, as well as turning a building into a liquor-processing centre.

The Southern Region Two marine police commander Asst Comm Muhd Zailani Abdullah said the 42-year old suspect was arrested at a double-storey building on Jalan Kampung, Sagil near here.

“Following his arrest, he took our team to a place believed to be a liquor-processing centre in the same area,’ ACP Muhd Zailani said in a statement.

He said some 1,227.80 litres of counterfeit liquor worth RM133,583.76 and a van worth RM10,000 were seized in the raid under Ops Kontraband.

The case is being investigated by the Tangkak police district headquarters’ Crime Investigation Department under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act.
