ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 41-year-old lorry driver was arrested for driving a car against the flow of traffic at KM5.5 Second Link, here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin said the suspect was also driving under the influence of alcohol and had collided with another vehicle.

“The incident occurred at 4.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 3, and investigations revealed that the lorry driver was on his way from Kulai, heading towards Tanjung Pelepas Port.

“Upon arriving at the Gelang Patah R&R, the lorry driver had missed the intersection to the port and went into the opposite lane towards the port,” he said in a statement.

ACP Rahmad added that the lorry was driving in the right lane before colliding with an oncoming vehicle.

“The car driver suffered injuries to the neck and legs and had been sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) for treatment,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol, which carries a maximum fine of RM20,000 and a maximum jail term of not more than 10 years.

Meanwhile, Johor Fire and Rescue Department Syuhaidy Fazly Yahya said that the car driver only suffered a minor injury and had been rescued by members of the public.

“The lorry driver was unharmed and managed to get out of the vehicle on his own,” he said.

Earlier, a 50-second video went viral on social media, showing a lorry driven against traffic before ramming into an oncoming car.
