Cops ready to back joint operations to plug cooking oil subsidy leakage, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is ready to support the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry through joint operations to curb cooking oil subsidy leakage.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director had met with the ministry’s secretary-general on Monday (July 4).

“During the meeting, the implementation of audits and operations on cooking oil packets were discussed.

“It was agreed that joint operations would be held, and arrests and seizures would be handed over to the ministry for further action,” he said in a statement.

He said the police, through the Internal Security and Public Order Department, had conducted contraband operations to curb leakages on subsidised items.

“Between January and June this year, at least RM38.24mil worth of subsidised items have been seized by the department.

“From that number, a total of RM854,252 worth of cooking oil was seized,” he said, adding that joint operations was a positive step where the police could contribute more actively in efforts to curb subsidy leakages.

He said the police welcomed these joint operations and would support the government wholeheartedly to ensure the well-being of the Keluarga Malaysia in facing cost of living challenges.
