Cops rescue kidnapped foreigner before RM40,000 ransom paid

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have rescued a foreigner after he was kidnapped and held for a RM40,000 ransom here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said that the victim was kidnapped from Jalan Sentul Indah at around 7pm on Oct 7 and a police report was lodged on Oct 9.

He said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 13) that police arrested two foreign men aged 34 and 43 at a house in Seri Kembangan on Oct 9 in connection with the kidnapping.

“Following the arrests, the victim was rescued,” said ACP Beh, adding that he was found in a nearby house with his hands and feet chained up.

“The 45-year-old victim allegedly owed the suspects a debt of about RM25,000 and the suspects demanded a RM40,000 ransom from the victim’s family,” he said.

ACP Beh also said that follow-up arrests were made the next day in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, with three more suspects caught.

“The two main suspects are foreigners and have been remanded for 14 days whereas the remaining three locals were released on police bail on Oct 12,” he said.
