Covid-19: Almost 99% of new cases on Friday (Jan 7) in categories 1, 2, says Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 98.9 per cent or 3,344 cases out of a total of 3,381 new Covid-19 cases reported on Friday (Jan 7) were in categories one and two, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic).

He said only 37 cases, or 1.1 per cent were in categories three, four and five.

“A total of 319 infections were import cases involving 284 locals and 35 foreigners. The number of recoveries reported today is 3,447 cases,” he said in a statement.

This is the fourth day in a row that new Covid-19 cases have recorded an increase after it dropped below 3,000 cases on Monday (Jan 3).

According to Dr Noor Hisham, six new clusters were identified by the Health Ministry on Friday while the country’s infectivity rate stood at 0.96.

He said detailed information on the current situation of the infection and spread of Covid-19 would be uploaded on the website CovidNow at https://covidnow.moh.gov.my and data is updated at midnight everyday.

On the current flood situation, he said a total of 56 cases of infectious diseases were detected among flood victims on Friday.

Of that total, 33 cases were acute respiratory tract infections, skin diseases (nine) and acute gastroenteritis (14).

Dr Noor Hisham said as of 3 pm on Friday, no new Covid-19 cases were detected among flood victims and this means the number of positive cases among flood victims remains at 465 cases.- Bernama
