COVID-19 tally in Indonesia nears 6,000, death toll 520

JAKARTA: COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have reached almost 6,000, with 24 more deaths reported overnight.

Government spokesman on COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto said 407 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally of positive cases to 5,923, since the first was confirmed on March 2.

"From noon yesterday to noon today, 24 more deaths were recorded, bringing the deah toll (since the first fatality on March 11) to 520,"he said at his daily COVID-19 briefing.

Jakarta has the highest number of deaths at 246 cases followed by West Java (56), East Java (46) and the rest in other provinces.
