Five teens arrested for allegedly bullying and injuring student

MUAR: Five teenage boys have been arrested for bullying and injuring a 14-year-old student.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Zaharudin Rasip said the suspects were arrested in separate locations in Melaka and Johor Bahru on Wednesday (Dec 15).

“The secondary school student was allegedly bullied by the 16-year-old suspects, who are his seniors, on Dec 9.

“It apparently started when the senior students were unhappy about the victim and his friends’ attitude.

“As a result, the victim suffered from injuries to his left ribs and was given medical treatment at the hospital,” he said.

The incident was only reported to the police on Tuesday (Dec 14), he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine or both upon conviction.

“Efforts are ongoing to look for other suspects involved in the case.

“We will apply for the remand of the five arrested suspects for following investigation on Thursday (Dec 16),” he added.

ACP Zaharudin said police will not hesitate to take action against those involved in bullying and advised the public, especially students, not to get involved in criminal activities.
