Floods: Situation in Batu Pahat improves as more evacuees return home

BATU PAHAT: The number of flood victims in this district dropped to 50 on Monday (Sept 19) night from 131 recorded in the morning.

The District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) in a statement said that as of 8pm, 13 families were taking shelter at the temporary relief centre of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Gading, here, which opened on Wednesday (Sept 14).

The affected victims are from Taman Sri Panchor, Kampung Sengkuang, Kampung Baru Sri Gading, Seri Gading town and Kampung Seri Tanjung.

The floods in the district were caused by a combination of heavy rain from 1.30am to 5.30am on Wednesday and high tide.- Bernama
