GE15: Barisan leadership must account for polls showing, says MCA’s Chan Quin Er

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional leadership must explain the losses suffered in the 15th General Election (GE15), says MCA spokesperson Chan Quin Er.

“I think the reasons behind the defeat are multi-pronged but I can’t speak on behalf of the (coalition).

“Let us wait for the meeting on Sunday (Nov 20) and I hope the (leadership) can give good reasons,” she told reporters when leaving Menara Dato’ Onn at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here.

She was asked if Barisan’s poorer-than-expected performance in GE15 was due to internal bickering, disunity and the wrong strategies.

Asked if the meeting with top Umno leaders in WTC earlier was a tense affair, Chan said it was not.

She said they had merely gathered to tally the polls results announced by the Election Commission (EC) to see which seats were retained in the contest.

Barisan’s Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong retained his Ayer Hitam seat while Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng defended Tanjung Piai.

In a statement earlier on Sunday morning, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Barisan will hold a supreme council meeting at WTC at 8pm.

This follows an Umno political bureau meeting at noon and its supreme council meeting at 3pm at the same venue.
