KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven individuals have been charged at a Magistrate’s Court here on Oct 14 in connection with kidnapping a Palestinian man, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

The Inspector-General of Police said the motive behind the kidnapping was to obtain information on software for phone hacking.

“We are still investigating the matter and we are waiting for the case to be mentioned on Dec 15,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 18).

The IGP urged the public not to speculate on the case as it could jeopardise the investigation and confuse the public.

It was reported that more than 10 individuals were detained in connection with the kidnapping of a Palestinian man at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng here.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim had said the 31-year-old victim was kidnapped at about 11pm on Sept 28.

“He was talking with his friend, a fellow country man, when a white Toyota Vellfire stopped alongside them.

“A man emerged and dragged the victim into the vehicle before they drove away,” he said.

His friend then lodged a police report at Dang Wangi police headquarters at 1am on Sept 29, Comm Azmi said.

“We formed a task force composed of teams from KL CID and Dang Wangi police headquarters to track down the victim,” he added.

The task force, led by KL deputy CID chief Asst Comm Nasri Mansor, managed to rescue the victim in Kuala Langat and arrested 12 Malaysian men and an Indonesian man late afternoon on Sept 29, Comm Azmi said.

“Further investigation led to the arrests of a man and a woman at Jalan Ampang on Oct 3 as well as two men and a woman in Melaka and Beranang, Selangor on Oct 4.

A local daily reported that Israel’s Mossad agents engaged Malaysians to track down and abduct two Palestinian men believed to be Hamas members at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng recently.

The daily also claimed that a local woman in her 30s headed a Mossad network in Malaysia.
