Johor job vacancies outnumber job seekers, says MB

JOHOR BARU: There are currently 51,944 job vacancies in Johor, exceeding the 34,278 job seekers in the state, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (pic).

The Johor Menteri Besar said that citizens in the state should make the most of the available job opportunities, especially in the manufacturing and service sectors, adding that the state government was also studying the possibility that there might be a mismatch in terms of job matching.

“Therefore, the government will engage all stakeholders to figure out a solution,” he said in Facebook post Sunday (Aug 28), stating that he had also met with Social Security Organisation (Socso) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed and discussed worker welfare and job opportunities in Johor.

He said there were suggestions that service centres in the state be used as Socso satellite centres that will serve as one-stop centres for employers to conduct interviews and job matching with potential employees.

He also said that 34,806 self-employed individuals have registered with the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme, including those in support service, passenger transport and goods and food delivery sectors.

Onn Hafiz also welcomed Socso’s assistance in channelling information and available benefits to the state’s citizens, including 278,000 housewives.

According to him, housewives contribute to the welfare of their families and communities and deserve to be covered under the social security scheme for housewives.

“This will have a positive impact on the unemployment rate, boost the rate of services and workforce as well as ensure comprehensive employee social security for Johor citizens,” he added. – Bernama
