Johor polls: DAP’s former Senai rep to contest Yong Peng seat

JOHOR BARU: Former Senai assemblyman Alan Tee Boon Tsong has been selected as the candidate to contest the Yong Peng seat in the upcoming Johor election.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Tee was selected based on his vast experience in politics and that he would be able to continue the work that had been done by former Yong Peng assemblyman Chew Peck Choo.

“He (Tee) will replace Chew and continue to help the people in Yong Peng based on the foundation she has laid,” he said at an announcement ceremony streamed via Facebook on Saturday (Feb 19).

Tee, who is the Johor DAP political education director, is the fifth candidate for the party announced Saturday and the 11th candidate named to date.

Earlier, Lim announced four other candidates, namely M. Kanan (Bekok), Ng Yak Howe (Bentayan), Yeo Tung Siong (Pekan Nanas) and Wong Bor Yang (Senai).

DAP has announced six other candidates for the state polls, namely Gan Peck Cheng (Penggaram), Chew Chong Sin (Mengkibol), Eric Ee Chin Li (Tangkak), Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali (Paloh), Andrew Chen Kah Eng (Stulang), and Liow Cai Tung (Johor Jaya).

In the previous general election, Chew won against Barisan Nasional candidate Ling Tian Soon with a 5,089 majority, while Tee, who contested the Senai seat, won against Barisan Nasional candidate Shen Poh Kuan with 18,902 majority votes.
