Man claims trial to cheating victim of more than RM800,000 over sale of diapers

MELAKA: A man has claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to 26 counts of cheating a woman of RM838,474 over the sale of baby diapers six years ago.

The accused Mohd Azizie Wahab, 38, pleaded not guilty before judge Nariman Badruddin on Friday (April 1).

Based on the charge sheet, the accused allegedly cheated the victim, Suriana Hussain, 37, who deposited the money in 26 transactions between May 19 and June 11, 2016, at a commercial bank in the Melaka Tengah district.

The transactions amounted from RM1,610 to RM128,960 and were deposited into a bank account belonging to the accused. However, the victim did not receive the diapers.

Mohd Azizie was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction.

The accused was represented by counsel Nur Fazrin Ahmad.

The court granted bail of RM78,000 for all the charges and fixed May 19 as the next mention date.

Former Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Mohd Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said police managed to track down the suspect after a detailed look at a cold case file.

He said the suspect was allegedly involved in 75 cheating cases between 2005 and 2017 throughout the country with losses estimated close to RM3mil.
