Mass resignation by Tangga Batu Bersatu members, claims division info chief

MELAKA: Hundreds of Tangga Batu Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members have resigned, claims its division information chief Mohd Zainuddin@ Rohaizan Salehan.

He said the mass resignation was triggered by the resignation of 17 committee members of the division after their chief Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen had relinquished all his posts within the party on Oct 30.

“All 17 committee members out of the 20 are leaving the party today (Nov 13) together with 530 of our grassroots members,” he said.

Mohd Zainuddin said the members will continue their services through non-governmental organisations.

On Nov 5, Bersatu’s national secretary and Melaka chief of the party women’s wing (Sri Kandi) Azlina Abdul Rahman relinquished all her posts.

Azlina said she had lost confidence in the leadership and was disappointed with the party’s stance of sidelining women in the nomination of candidates during the 15th General Election (GE15).

She resigned together with other Srikandi leaders, namely, state information chief Rohani Ahmad; Alor Gajah and Hang Tuah Jaya division leaders; Pengkalan Batu, Ayer Keroh and Bukit Katil branch chiefs, as well as hundreds of their grassroots members.

Azlina had also openly stated that she will support local Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Roslan Ahmad and will leave it to the prerogative of other members whether they want to back Barisan in GE15.

Perikatan Nasional has fielded PAS’ Zulkifli Ismail as its candidate for Jasin.
