NEW DELHI: Malaysia’s High Commission staff and their families celebrated their first “normal” Hari Raya Aidilfitri in three years in New Delhi on Tuesday (May 3), taking advantage of an improvement in the pandemic situation.

Executives of Malaysian companies in India, students and Malaysians of different communities living in Delhi also joined them in the celebration at the Malaysian High Commission and the “open house” to enjoy authentic Malaysian delicacies.

“This is the first such gathering we have organised in three years. The number of guests is limited but this year, we have been able to celebrate Eid Al Fitr in a more normal way,” Malaysia’s High Commissioner to India Datuk Hidayat Abdul Hamid said.

Brunei Darussalam’s High Commissioner to India, Datuk Paduka Alaihuddin Taha, and other Bruneian diplomats joined the Malaysians for the morning prayers and the celebrations.

“Our open house today attracted Malaysians from different communities. We hope the pandemic situation will get better and things will return to normal soon to allow us to interact with the wider community of Delhi,” Hidayat said.

Muslims across India offered prayers at mosques and prayer grounds as well as organised get-together as daily Covid-19 cases in the country remain low. – Bernama
