NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is expected to officially launch on 5 January, which isn’t too far off now. However, just as in the past, some retailers in Eastern Europe just can’t help themselves and have begun selling the GPU a whole week early, and at a rather exorbitant price tag to boot.

Images and evidence of the RTX 4070 Ti being sold in Serbia ahead of its launch was first spotted by and posted by Redditor Sebastian Castellanos, and the AIB model shown in the images appears to be a Gigabyte Gaming OC model on display in a Serbian retail outlet. The image shows the packaging and not the GPU itself. However, by simply putting it out, the retailer has clearly spoiled the surprise.

As a quick primer, the RTX 4070 Ti is basically the “unlaunched” RTX 4080 12GB that NVIDIA has initially planned on launching alongside what is now the only RTX 4080. Specs-wise, the Lovelace card has 12GB GDDR6X memory, a base and boost clock of 2.31GHz and 2.61GHz, a 192-bit memory bus, 7680 CUDA cores. And the same 3rd generation RT Cores and 4th generation Tensor Cores.

In addition to the blatant and early display of the RTX 4070 Ti, the retailer has also slapped a price tag on the box. You’ll have to zoom in on the picture, but the sticker says that the card costs 154999 Serbian Dinar (RSD), which is approximately RM6205. That’s price tag is extremely high and honestly, it’s on par with the pricing for an RTX 4080. For that matter, it is also clear that the retailer is taking advantage of the situation and know that, sadly, there are some individuals that would take the bait.

There is really no benefit to purchasing the RTX 4070 Ti ahead of its launch, let alone any card in a similar scenario. Not only is it ridiculous to pay unscrupulous retailers their asking price, you’re also encouraging them to continue the trend. For another matter, you may have the hardware in your hands early, but you won’t be able to use the card until NVIDIA makes the official day zero drivers for the GPU available. In short, you’ve basically paid a king’s ransom for a temporary paperweight.
