OPPO has launched a new smartphone in Thailand that may not be so new, as the specs seem like a carbon copy of an earlier-released device. The “new” Reno8 Z 5G is the budget variant of the upper-midrange Reno8 series, following the standard Reno8 and the Reno8 Pro.

Despite being a new release, the phone seems to be just the Reno7 Z 5G, but with a new backplate and Dawnlight Gold colour to match the Reno8 series. The redesign sees the camera island now laying flat instead of being a rectangular bump and is extended to the frame. OPPO has also removed the RGB ring lights around the camera lenses found in its predecessor.

The OPPO Reno8 Z sports the same 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate, as well as a fingerprint scanner underneath the display. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset and, in Thailand, it comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with a microSD expansion slot.

As for the cameras, it is equipped with the same three-lens setup made up of a 64MP main shooter, a 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, you can a 16MP selfie camera on the top-left corner in the form  of a punch hole cutout.

On the battery side, the Reno8 Z features the same 4,500mAh capacity with 33W charging, which OPPO says takes 63 minutes to fully charge the phone. As for everything else, it supports Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, and it has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is shipping with ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12 out of the box. Available in black and gold, the phone is being priced at THB12,990 (~RM1,630). The company has not said if it will be coming to other markets.
