Over RM1mil raised during Johor’s Laksamana Run

ISKANDAR PUTERI: More than RM1mil has been raised through this year’s Laksamana Run, held on Aug 6 at Dataran Iskandar Puteri, Kota Iskandar here.

Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (YKTLJ) chief executive officer Mohd Ikmal Izam Zaini said the 5km night run was launched by Her Highness Johor Princess Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim, who is also the royal patron of the event.

“A total of 5,500 participants signed up for the Laksamana Neon Run 2022 for the physical and virtual run categories.

“The participants came from all over the country including Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei, and they signed up since registration opened on May 14, this year.

“Besides promoting a healthy lifestyle, this programme also aims to collect funds through sponsorship packages which have been contributed by corporate organisations,” he added.

He said this when met after the Laksamana Run appreciation dinner at Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) main hall here on Tuesday (Aug 9).

The event was also attended by Her Majesty Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, who is also the YKTLJ chairman, and Tunku Tun Aminah.

Among the platinum package sponsors are the Johor state government, Johor Corporation, Lotte Chemical Titan Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Corporation Berhad and Ranhill SAJ.

A total of RM1,045,000 was collected from this year’s event, taking the total amount to RM4.45mil in donations collected since 2017.
