JOHOR BARU: A total of 61,957 recipients from the B40 group have claimed rebates totalling RM8.8mil under the Malaysian Family Child Restraint System Purchase Subsidy programme (MyCRS) since March 1.

Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) in a statement said the rebate programme under Budget 2022 that ends on Friday (Sept 30) had received a total of 527,254 applications.

The programme provided a 50% rebate or up to RM150 for the B40 group to purchase CRS.

“This initiative is one of the government’s efforts to ease the burden of the B40 group to buy and own quality CRS at a reasonable price,” read the statement.

According to Miros, one of the efforts to promote MyCRS is through the MyCRS tour which was held to help eligible members of the public to register and obtain subsidy application approval immediately.

“This programme is a responsibility of the government to members of the Malaysian Family to improve the safety of child passengers in vehicles apart from supporting business continuity and economic recovery in Malaysia,” said MIROS director-general Datuk Dr Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim.

He said the implementation of the subsidy programme has received cooperation and strong support from the Transport Ministry and distributors and authorised representatives of CRS sellers, adding that Miros was always committed to the efforts to raise the awareness of the public, especially parents, in the use of seat belts and CRS.

Khairil Anwar said he hoped that the MyCRS initiative will be a catalyst and a new beginning towards cultivating road safety practices among the public.

Earlier, Khairil Anwar officiated at the closing ceremony in conjunction with the last day of the MyCRS programme here where various activities were held including a CRS inspection to provide guidance and advice to parents in ensuring that it is suitable according to the prescribed age and height limit. – Bernama
