Paraglider dies after slamming into wall in freak Sabah accident

KOTA KINABALU: A paraglider has died after strong winds suddenly caught his parachute after he landed, which caused him to slam into a concrete wall in Menggatal near here on Friday (Dec 30) afternoon.

The victim, who is a paragliding pilot, had just completed a jump and had disengaged his passenger from the parachute but had not taken his own harness off.

A strong gust of wind suddenly carried him off the ground again before he slammed into a concrete wall.

Police are still gathering more information about the incident.

Kota Kinabalu acting police chief Supt Kalsom Idris confirmed the incident.

“We will issue a statement later. Investigations are ongoing,” she said when contacted.
