Razer Blade 18 Pushes Desktop Replacement Sizes Up A Notch

Razer Blade 18

The Razer Blade series of laptops have not changed much over the years beyond iterative upgrades. Though this year, it looks like the brand is giving its laptops a slight increase in size, as indicated by previous rumours. For its desktop replacements, it looks like the company is stretching the Razer Blade 17 out by an inch, resulting in the Blade 18 as showcased as part of CES 2023.

For the most part, the new Razer Blade 18 boasts the same qualities as the Blade 17 series that came before. One main difference is the aspect ratio of the screen. Instead of the more common 16:9, Razer is opting to go for 16:10 for the screens of its new laptops. Beyond that, we’re still looking at a QHD+ 240Hz display, with a 3ms response time. The company also claims that you can now get 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and up to 500 nits of brightness now.

Befitting a large laptop, the Razer Blade 18 also comes with a 5MP webcam and a six-speaker array by the sides of the keyboard, something that will be familiar to those who have seen the Blade 17. For ports, this desktop replacement comes with three USB-A ports, two USB-C (one of which is Thunderbolt 4), a HDMI 2.1, an Ethernet port and a full-sized SD card reader.

Inside, we’re looking at Intel’s 13th generation Core i9 HX Series processors, with graphics options going up to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090. RAM options include 16GB of 32GB 5600MHz DDR5, with an additional slot for upgrades. It’s much the same story for storage, with the default 1TB SSD going with two M.2 NVMe slots. All of the above gets packed in the usual, relatively thin and subdued body.

Razer says that the Blade 18 will be available in the first quarter of the year, with a starting price of US$2899.99 (~RM12747). That being said, it’s worth noting that the company does not usually bring many of its Blade laptops to our shores, and this may be among those that get excluded.
