It was revealed last month that Razer was gearing up to launch a brand new cloud gaming based handheld device known as the Razer Edge. The gaming firm has officially introduced the product along with its full specifications and other details during the RazerCon event that was held recently.

For starters, the new Razer Edge sports a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, 144 Hz refresh rate, 288 Hz touch sampling rate, and features Gorilla Glass protection. It is so far the only handheld gaming device that supports a resolution that is higher than other similar devices that have been introduced to the market. In fact, Razer claims that the Edge features 87% more pixels than its competitors, which includes the LG G Cloud and Valve’s Steam Deck.

It’s also worth noting that the handheld, in its entirety, is actually a removable Android 12 tablet that’s housed inside the all-new Razer Kishi V2 Pro controller.The latter comprises the same analog triggers as the original variant, along with microswitches, buttons, and D-pad. What sets the Pro apart from its sibling is its built-in HyperSense haptic feedback and the addition of a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The company says both components of the Razer Edge come in at a combined weight of around 400 grams.

Under the hood, the gaming firm’s cloud-based handheld is equipped with the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform, which was developed exclusively by Qualcomm. It features a 3 Ghz octa-core Kryo CPU and a built-in Adreno GPU, which Razer touts would provide its device with, well, an edge of two to three times the speed of typical mobile platforms that are found in other similar devices. Meanwhile, keeping its internals at an ideal temperature during intense gaming sessions is an active cooling system and six air vents.

Paired together with the chipset is 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of storage space. The company did not say whether the Edge has expandable storage support but then again, games might not have to worry about needing extra space as the handheld is designed for cloud gaming. Besides that, also onboard are two-way speakers with Verizon Adaptive Sound, a pair of microphones, a front-facing camera, and a 5,000 mAh battery capacity. In regards to the latter, Razer did not say how long the device would last on a full charge.

Being a cloud gaming handheld, the Razer Edge comes with Wi-Fi 6E support that utilises the 6 GHz channel, and has multi-gig bandwidth support for fast download and upload speeds. On that note, the company is offering the Razer Edge in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 5G variants, though the latter is currently a Verizon exclusive.

Availability for either model will be confirmed at a later date, though they are expected to arrive sometime in January of next year. Pricing-wise, Razer says the Wi-Fi variant will set you back US$ 400 (~RM 1,880), while the price for the 5G edition has not been disclosed just yet. Reservations for the Edge is now available via the brand’s global website, although it has not been confirmed yet whether either model is planned for a release in other regions.
