Samsung unveils Galaxy S23 Ultra (from RM5,699) with 200-megapixel camera, S23+ (from RM4,699) and S23 (from RM3,899)

Samsung Electronics debuts its latest lineup of flagships at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco, with the S23 Ultra featuring a 200-megapixel camera – a first for a Galaxy device – along with the S23+ and S23.

That 200-megapixel wide-angle sensor is part of a four camera setup on the back – a 12-megapixel ultra wide sensor, a 10-megapixel 3x zoom telephoto sensor, and a 10-megapixel 10x zoom telephoto sensor.

The device includes an improved Nightography feature, augmented by its 200-megapixel adaptive pixel sensor, allowing for bright and detailed shots at night.

The S23+ and S23 share the same camera setups, with a 50-megapixel wide-angle main shooter, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor.

The camera bump Samsung called the “Contour Cut” from last year’s models is also no longer present in the S23 and S23+.

All three models are equipped with a 12-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera with “Super HDR” and enhanced Night Portraits.

The trio also features a Dynamic Amoled 2x display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and an under-display fingerprint reader.

The S23 Ultra has a 6.8in screen like its predecessor but with less curvature, giving it an improved grip.

The S23+ and S23 have a flat display measuring 6.6in and 6.1in, respectively.

The devices are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, with the S23 Ultra equipped with a 5,000mAh battery.

The electronics giant also maintains the S Pen stylus in the S23 Ultra added in last year’s S22 Ultra.

Meanwhile, the S23 and S23+ got a bump in battery capacity, up by 200mAh from their predecessors, now at 3,900mAh and 4,700mAh, respectively.

Both the S23 Ultra and S23+ feature 45W charging and are claimed to be able to hit 65% in 30 minutes, while the S23 supports 25W charging and is said to be able to reach up to 50% charge in 30 minutes.

In addition to a focus on photography and gaming, the S23 series also prioritises an eco-friendly design.

This includes pre-consumer recycled glass on the front and back of the device, pre-consumer recycled aluminium on the SIM tray, side and volume buttons, and plastic recycled from discarded water barrels, PET bottles, and fishing nets.

Even the device’s packaging is claimed to be made of 100% recycled paper.

The S23 range is the first to feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is claimed to improve drop resistance on rougher surfaces and is made of 22% pre-consumer recycled materials on average.

Samsung also improved its accessory offerings, introducing a line of customisable clear, rugged, and silicone grip cases for the entire series.

While the clear cases will receive collaboration designs that can be swapped out on the fly, the cases that allow attachments to be mounted are the highlights.

Attachments shown off include a kickstand, card holder, and camera tripod that doubles as a camera grip with a detachable remote control.

The S23 Ultra will be available with 12GB RAM in three sizes – 256GB (RM5,699), 512GB (RM6,199), and 1TB (RM7,199).

The S23+ comes with 8GB RAM in two storage capacities – 256GB (RM4,699) and 512GB (RM5,199).

The S23 also comes with 8GB RAM and two capacities – 128GB (RM3,899) and 256GB (RM4,199).
