KOTA KINABALU: Rescuers are looking for a senior citizen who has gone missing from his home in Sabah’s east coast Tawau district on Wednesday (Aug 10).

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said Masri Bachi, 60, has failed to return after leaving his home in Bukit Kukusan at 10am.

He said rescuers were immediately deployed after receiving a distress call from villagers.

“Two teams of rescuers are involved in the search and rescue operation which also involved villagers,” he said, when contacted on Wednesday.

He added they expanded the search area covering 1km from the man’s house, scouring the jungles nearby, but have yet to find him.

Misran said the rescue teams postponed the search at 6.30pm and will continue the operation the following day.

Rescuers meanwhile were still unable to locate a teenager who had gone missing after being swept away by strong currents while crossing a river in interior Sook, with the search entering its fifth day on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old, identified as Kenn Mohd Afiandar Angkorou, had been crossing the river with his father Afiandar, brother Kelfi and cousin identified only as Jawi, prior to the 7pm incident on Friday (Aug 5).

The four were crossing the river at Borneon Timber Jalan Tulid, when strong currents suddenly hit.

Misran said two rescue teams scoured the river from two ends on Wednesday, one covering about 10km from the river mouth in the Pingas area to Sungai Milian.

The other looked for the boy from the Naluri Estate to Kampung Masaum, also covering a radius of 10km.
