The Immigration Department in Selangor has announced what it calls the MyOnline Passport Kiosk. Announced via its official Facebook page, the purpose of the kiosk is to speed up the process of applying for and obtaining a passport at the Selangor Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

According to the post, Selangor is estimated to have 2900 applications for a Malaysian International Passport (PMA) a day, and almost 60000 applications a month. This makes the Selangor office of the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) “one of the highest PMA-producing offices in Malaysia”. With that in mind, the launch of the MyOnline Passport Kiosk is meant to help walk-in applicants at the UTC speed up the process, especially during peak hours.

As the Facebook post explains, those who are eligible to make use of this MyOnline Passport Kiosk are applicants who are aged 13 years and above who are “not from the new passport applications category”, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Others include those with lost or damaged passports, or students under 21 and are looking to continue their studies abroad.

Previously, the Immigration Department of Malaysia announced the formation of a special team specifically to handle the heavy stream of online passport applications and renewals in the Klang Valley. This was, in turn an iteration on what was previously done in Johor Bahru successfully.

Prior to that, the Immigration Department extended operating hours for passport renewals for nearly all states in Peninsular Malaysia, with the exception of Pahang. Specifically, immigration offices in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka were to extend their hours to 10PM, while the ones in Penang, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis were to operate until 6PM. This includes opening for half a day on Saturdays, which was only a thing for certain offices prior.
