Social media user story of mum’s hug touches hearts online

PETALING JAYA: The story of a woman, politely asking for a hug from a stranger who reminded her of her unwell mother has touched many hearts online.

Social media user Anis Ramli said she was having lunch with her mother at Sri Karak Restaurant in Petaling Jaya’s Old Town when the woman approached her mother, asking if she enjoyed her food.

“Mom said ‘ya, ya food was good, that’s why I enjoy’.

“The lady replied ‘Good, good. Auntie, sorry can I hug you?’,” Anis recalled.

Though she was shocked by the question, Anis’s mother was quick to positively responded to the request.

“The lady hugged mom. Began crying,” Anis said.

In between sobs, the lady shared that Anis’s mother reminded her of her own mother who could no longer enjoy her foods as normal.

“My mom is 93. She can’t eat. Only feeds through tubes.

“That’s why I enjoyed seeing you enjoying your food and eating.

“I remembered my mom,” the woman said as she sobbed and continued hugging Anis’ mother.

“In that moment, Malaysia was alright again,” she said.

Anis’s posting was shared on her Facebook page on Sept 27, before going viral recently.

“Gosh, my tears pouring. (I) can’t help it. I feel her pain,” said a social media user using the name Taj Mahal Vergara.

The story deeply moved Siti Amirah Rashid Ahmed who had just lost her mother.

“Missing my mum too.

“She passed away last May while in sleep. Can I hug your mum too?” she asked.
