AMPANG: Six family members in Taman Halaman here were asked to evacuate after their home was damaged in a landslide on Friday (Dec 9) evening.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said that seven personnel from the Ampang Fire and Rescue station rushed to the scene at Jalan Halaman 6 after receiving a distress call at 6.14pm.

“Upon carrying out checks, it was discovered that the landslide had affected two houses where one was occupied while the second was empty,” he said in a statement.

He added that the six residents, including a senior citizen, were not injured during the incident.

Norazam said firemen were closely monitoring the site and advised the occupants to temporarily evacuate to avoid any untoward incident.

Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail said that she had been made aware of the landslide incident by the local council and fire department.

“My concern every time it rains in Ampang are landslides. I have requested (the authorities) to take immediate action and preventive measures to ensure that other areas are also safe,” she said on her social media.

This is the second time such an incident in Taman Halaman within a month, after a landslide took place on Nov 15.

The kitchen and a bedroom of a bungalow were damaged during the incident and no injuries were reported.
