PETALING JAYA: It is expected that the start of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Malaysia and Singapore will aid in the economic recovery of both countries, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

In a Facebook post on Monday (Nov 29), the Transport Minister said that the VTL will also aid in connecting family members and boost bilateral relations.

“Thank you to Singapore’s Transport Minister S. Iswaran and the Singaporean Transport Ministry for the strong partnership with Malaysia which benefits the people of both countries,” he said.

The VTL-Air commenced with six flights while VTL-Land had 32 two-way trips between the countries.

Both, he said, were significant steps in restoring transport connectivity between the two countries safely and in a gradual manner.

He added that the recently signed agreement for the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System will make travel between both sides easier and more comfortable when it is fully operational in 2026.

“With a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour, the RTS Link that will be operational in 2026 will require only five minutes to travel between the Bukit Chagar station in Johor Baru, and Woodlands, Singapore,” he said.
