The Redmi Pad, which was accidentally leaked by Xiaomi itself last month, is now official. Introduced first for the Indian market, the subsidiary brand’s first ever tablet is a midranger that is powered by a MediaTek chipset and a decently sized battery capacity.

Now that the device has finally made its debut, it turns out that most of the suggested specifications by unofficial sources are inaccurate. According to the official specifications, the new Redmi Pad is equipped with a 10.6-inch IPS LCD display with 1200 x 2000 px resolution and 90 Hz adaptive refresh rate. It also comes with quad Dolby Atmos tuned speakers, with two of each situated on the top and bottom of the device.

Under the hood, Redmi’s first tablet is equipped with a mid-range MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core chipset. Alongside that is a Mali G57 MC2 GPU, up to 6GB of RAM, and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. Xiaomi is offering the device with only Wi-Fi only connectivity, which is also paired together with Bluetooth 5.1 support. Meanwhile, powering it is an “all-day” 8,000 mAh battery with 18 W fast charging capability.

On the imaging-side of things, situated on the back of the Redmi Pad is a lone 8 MP camera module for photography and video recording. There’s another 8MP sensor in front as well but unlike its twin, the front-facing camera has a wider 105-degree field of view and supports an Apple Center Stage-like feature called FocusFrame, which tracks the user’s movements during video calls.

In India, the new Redmi Pad will be sold for INR 12,499 (~RM 711) for the 3GB + 64 GB trim, INR 14,499 (~RM 825) for the 4 GB + 64 GB, and INR 19,999 (~RM 1,139) for the top-end 6 GB + 128 GB configuration. The tablet is available in three colour options: Graphite Grey, Moonlight Silver, and Mint Green. For now, there’s no word on whether Xiaomi or Redmi plans to release the device for other regions.
