Yong Peng Chinese High School gets record RM30mil public donation

PETALING JAYA: The Yong Peng Chinese High School has received a donation of RM30mil, the highest amount ever collected by the school.

Transport Minister MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said of this, RM20mil had been donated by brothers Ma Wong Ching and Ma On May, while another RM10mil were collected through public donations.

The school, which is located within the Ayer Hitam constituency where Dr Wee is the MP, was presented with the donations during its 65th Anniversary Dinner and Fundraiser for the Education and Development Foundation of Yong Peng Chinese High School on Sunday (Sept 18).

Dr Wee thanked Wong Ching, who is also the Yong Peng Chinese High School board of directors chairman, for inviting him to complete the event.

“As the Ayer Hitam MP, it makes me happy to be amongst the 2,400 guests in attendance.

“This total of RM30 million makes it the highest donation collection record received by the school.

“Previously, the highest amount of donations was RM26 million received by Kuen Cheng Chinese High School in 2013,” said Dr Wee.

He added that the Johor state government has also allocated RM200,000 to Yong Peng Chinese High School Education Foundation.

Also present at the event was Johor state exco and Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon, Johor State exco and Paloh assemblyman Lee Ting Han and Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong.
